Slovakian judoka Zoltan Palkovacs dies in car accident

Last weekend, Slovakian judoka Zoltan Palkovacs died in a car accident. 29 year-old Palkovacs was on his way home after competing in Austria in the Bundesliga on behalf of Noricum Leibnitz. Palkovacs was a passenger in the car, and the driver survived the crash.

Palkovacs represented Slovakia at the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and at various World Championships. Palkovacs placed 17th at the recent World Championships in Tokyo, and placed 9th at the 2007 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. He won nine World Cup medals, and gold medal at the Budapest World Cup in 2004. Palkovacs was the 2006 World Military Champion and was one of the best ever athletes from Slovakia.
